Photo connection
during this scene Hassan and Amir were racing kites and Hassan gets raped by bullies. Amir didn't help because he was too afraid to fight back. Amir didn't know if Hassan seen him or not, but he did and never said anything. Not being able to live with himself and what he did, Amir makes it seem like Hassan and his father stole from him so that they would get kicked out of his house.

Amir and Hassan under the famous pomegranate tree in the movie. In the book the tree symbolize a place where the boys grew closer together. They climbed the tree, ate fruits and Amir read to Hassan- they even crave their name in the tree " Amir and Hassan, the sultans of Kabul". After the rape scene, when the boys visited the tree, things weren't the same anymore.
In this interview, the author Khaled Hosseini talks about how ‘The Kite Runner’ is consider “the human side of a nation at war.” Khaled mentioned how many people in Afghanistan look up to this book because it is full of true feeling of how many people felt during the war. In Afghanistan, the taliban banned the book for several years because of the image it sends out about them. Though ‘The Kite Runner’ is a fiction, the struggles, emotions and hardships that took place during this book is all true. These are all things people faced during the war.

Movie connection
This is a link to different clips from the movie The Kite Runner. After publishing the book on May 29th, 2003 a movie was then made on December 14th, 2007. Many people who read this book said the movie was very similar, just leaving out some small details.

This is a photo of children living in Afghanistan, holding kites. In The Kite Runner, Amir and Hassan are competing in the kite running tournament. Kite running was a very popular event that took place in Afghanistan during the winter. This picture relates to chapter 8, where Amir and Hassan fly a blue kite and win the tournament.
